How difficult is it to join a sorority? And has anyone experienced WSU greek life?

What are the chances of getting rejected during rush for a sorority for your average girl and has anyone done the greek life at Washington State University?

i go to WSU and i’m not in a sorority but one of my close friends here is, so just from being around it so much i can probably give you a little insight on how things work around here.

it’s not difficult to join a sorority here – not compared to super competitive places like the south where greek life is well… life. but the rush process in general is the hardest part because how it works is that you visit all the houses and rank your favorites. but what ends up happening a lot of the time is that the houses you ranked as your favorites don’t end up inviting you back, so you kind of have to re-strategize and either drop or be more open about sororities that you weren’t initially interested in or liked. the chances of getting rejected on bid day are not that high here. what usually happens is that girls just decide to drop throughout the week if don’t get invited back to the houses they want and don’t want to be in any other houses. and as long as you don’t suicide the night before bid day (meaning you only put 1 choice down instead of 2) you most likely won’t be rejected from a house on bid day. oh, and this is all assuming that you’re a freshman. if you’re a transfer things will of course be harder because you’re older, but even most transfers get into houses.. they just don’t ever tend to get into any of the “top” houses.

not sure what houses you were interested in or looking into but here’s kind of a rundown, stereotypically of the houses on campus. the top houses are probably pi-phi (known for having the rich girls), kappa delta, delta gamma, and kappa kappa gamma.. all these houses are known for girls that are wealthy, pretty, and were your stereotypical hot/popular girls back in high school. the average houses are probably AGD, thetas, and chi-o, and alpha phi, and AOpi. then probably the least “popular” soroities on campus which aren’t big on the greek “social scene” are alpha chi-o, tri-delta, gamma phi betas, and sigma kappa. and in the past couple years ADpi has kind of been seen as the “outcast” or weakest sorority on campus. tri-delta actually used to be the top house to be in a couple years ago until half their house got kicked out for violating something, then the other half quit so they had to start all over and now it’s pretty much completely opposite.

i would consider myself to be an average girl and really regret not rushing at WSU. i transfered so i figured it would be harder to get into a sorority plus i had a perception that they were all rich, supermodel girls, but i wish i would’ve given in a chance because even girls i know that i would never have thought would be “sorority” girls, usually find a house that fits them on campus and they love it. i mean, there’s a lot of people that make great dorm friends as well… but overall, most of the girls in my dorm anyways that didn’t rush were pretty anti-social. if you don’t rush and you’re lucky, you’ll still meet people on your floor that didn’t rush either, but still like to go out and have a good time and you’ll find yourself going to the apartment parties and stuff. but i found that other “average” girls like myself that didn’t rush found it more difficult to have a fun social life.

a lot of people will say that there’s so much more than greek social life at WSU… but really it was amazing to me to find out that only like 10% of the schools population is actually greek because honestly it feels like at least 70% is greek. they walk to class in huge groups, they go to the rec in big groups, thurs-sat night there are always huge groups walking up the hill to greek row, in my lab class i was the only girl out of 15 girls in the class that was not in a sorority.. so to me it felt like they were such a huge part of the campus and sometimes i did find it difficult to feel like i fit in because i wasn’t in one.

long story short, if you’re even considering rushing – just do it. it’s better to do it and if you don’t like it well hey then you can drop out, rather than think about doing it, but not and then end up regreting it later. if you have any more questions about things at WSU feel free to ask me
